Convicted felon joins a political campaign! …Can you guess which campaign? Of course you can!

The title from the Daily Mail says it all: “Convicted felon who stole $750K from Bloomberg’s campaign joins Trump’s team in New York.” To be specific: John Haggerty, who in 2011 was convicted of stealing from Bloomberg’s re-election campaign in order to finance a private real estate deal. Fortunately, failed NY gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino (Donald Trump’s unofficial New York campaign guy) vouches for him!  So, what are you worried about?

…Now, tell us all the truth.  None of you are really surprised, are you?  Neither that Haggerty got hired, or that Trump looked at Paladino and said This is a guy I want working for me. One of the fascinating things about the Trump campaign is that Trump doesn’t really care if the endorsements he gets are from people that the rest of us respect, like, or even professionally fear.  It’s enough if they just have their own Wikipedia entry.

PS: Yes, actually in fact I do think that if you get convicted of stealing campaign money in order to buy yourself a house, and then spend time in jail for it, then you should stay out of politics for the rest of your life.  There are any number of jobs that you can still credibly do. I mean, I’m sure that it’s a hardship from the point of view of your lifestyle, but you stole campaign money in order to buy yourself a house. The hardship is kind of the point.

  1. Only slightly off-topic — I wonder if we’ll see a resurrection of the Watergate era phrase “unindicted co-conspirator” with regard to Hillary’s associates?

Yeah, I’m not holding my breath.

  2. Reading the headline, I assumed the answer was Hillary. Not that I’m surprised by the answer, but I didn’t guess it on the first try.
