My RedState piece on Ted Cruz calling Trump a coward.

Found here.  Short version… there is no short version.  I’ve tried to summarize it three times and every time the wordcount soared. This one, you’re just gonna have to click through, sorry.

  1. Should be entertaining. I can’t think of anything more likely to send Trump into a rage than calling him a coward.
Whether or not he can keep his temper in check is a very good and vital test for him to have to pass.

    1. This, again, goes to the question of whether The Donald’s public (including twitter) persona is “the real deal”, or an act he puts on, a schtick he does.
      .
I remain convinced it’s a schtick, but appreciate the counterpoint – just because it’s a facade doesn’t mean what’s behind it is pretty .. only that it’s different than the public face.

All that said, I scrolled through the comments and .. think I need a shower.

      1. It does. And I certainly hope Trump’s public persona is a facade. I’ve seen evidence that it is, but I’ve also seen evidence that it’s not.
That it’s been over a day since this, and we haven’t heard much from Trump rising n wrath to the challenge, I think it stands as evidence.

As to the comments you encounter…
I’ve always believed that only a free people can be moral.
But experience has been trying very hard to teach me that only a moral people can remain free.
And I’m pretty sure that collectively, we’ve failed that test of character rather spectacularly.

        1. Aside:
          .
In my opinion, a non-free people will have a morality, of one sort or another, enforced upon them.
          .
Only a free people can express their own morality.
          .
Only a people who express their own morality can avoid the moral hazards often associated with authoritarianism.
          .
I find some of Eric Flint**’s speeches in “Crown of Slaves” (http://www.baen.com/crown-of-slaves.html) to be quite compelling – he postulates a people-group who had others’ morality forced upon them, a tiny subset recognizing that their own judgement is compromised, and that they must import wisdom rather than trust themselves…

** Worth noting Flint’s a rather pro-union and IIRC Trotskyite sort of fellow, and a good author, when he keeps the cast small enough…

          1. I don’t think a love for Mother Russia prevented anyone from being a Communist.
            .
It may, of course, have prevented them from getting anywhere near the levers of power, but that’s just common sense.

          2. I refuse to believe that Eric Flint’s REALLY a Hard Lefty. I mean, he doesn’t hate America at all.

Moe, I know some well-intentioned lefties who do (or did) love America. They just didn’t think the country was living up to its potential, and wanted to “improve” it. I happen to think they’re profoundly wrong and that their cure is far worse than the disease. But they’re “red diaper babies” and didn’t have a choice of the religion they were born into.

I’m all in favor of unions as long as (A) membership is completely voluntary, with no coercion, and (B) they aren’t monopolies — multiple unions should be able to freely compete with one another for members. Unfortunately, that isn’t what we have.

  2. Cruz better be careful. Trump may retaliate with another empty threat about filing a lawsuit regarding Cruz’s citizenship.
