So, Captain America: Civil War. Regular, or 3D?

3-D doesn’t actually bother me too much, and there’s a 10 AM showing tomorrow instead of a 11:30 AM one. On the other hand, 3-D is a bit more expensive and I need to start thinking in those terms. On the gripping hand, 11:30 means that I could grab lunch beforehand, not breakfast. Thoughts?

  1. Saw Star Wars in both last year. Can’t say the 3D experience was too much more worth it…comes down to the story being worth it. That being said, the 3D is fun and has a certain sharpness/focus which is pleasing…takes a few minutes to regain equilibrium after the show but still fun. I think it’s worth it for the epics…and this seems to be in that ballpark. Best deal in our town is $5 Tuesdays which includes 3D…and the theaters are all recliners now to boot.

  2. I personally think it’s a medium-level sin to not have popcorn when you’re watching a summer action movie, but I have never considered going to a movie before noon, so that may not be relevant. On the gripping hand here, I am so totally not a morning person that I’d be more concerned with making sure that I wasn’t stressing myself out over someplace I needed to be when the movie was done.

  3. I personally do not find 3D worth the up charge. Would rather spend the extra on a cold beer if your theater has that.

  4. I ended up getting a ticket for tomorrow at 7 because the only slot at a reasonable time tonight that still had tickets for sale at the local theater was a 3D IMAX showing. And while I don’t have any problems affording this, I just don’t think it’s worth over 50% more.

  5. It’s a crapshoot — 3D is worth it for some movies, not worth it for others. I think the movie that’s made the best use of 3D (so far) was “Up.”

On the other hand, my wife is stereo-blind, and she’d rather not spend the extra money for something that she doesn’t care about.

  6. I saw it in 2d and I can’t really think of a lot of scenes that would have sung in 3d. You won’t be missing much without it, but 90 minutes less waiting is 90 minutes.
