Tweet of the Day, I Don’t Think I Was Supposed To React To This Positively edition.

I have an officially private opinion on the entire Brexit thing, but: there are worse ways to write weekly columns.

Need some thoughts on a campaign seed.

The basic premise would be: some time in the last hundred to fifty years a fairly epic clandestine war was fought inside the US government (and others too, I suppose).  Once it was over, what evidence still remained of that war was carefully buried – literally, in some places – and the survivors made sure that no information would surface in their lifetimes.  And it worked! – But now everyone involved in the original situation is dead, and nobody remembers why certain bunkers aren’t supposed to be occupied and why certain files should remain off-limits.  And the Macguffins that are inside them are still fairly potent, should they ever get out.

Anyway, I can see a story in that, sure. But would it be fun to game? – Because I’m not so certain that it would be.

…So they’re really gonna make a D&D film, then?

They’re casting for it, at least.  I may be getting old; the article assumes that I of course know who Ansel Engort is – and I don’t, particularly.  Or, more accurately, I kind of know; I just don’t really care, much.

Let me be honest with you: I don’t know whether you can put together a meaningful, decent, while still generic Dungeons & Dragons movie.  I could believe that you could sustain a good flick by drawing from Greyhawk, or Forgotten Realms, or – listen for the people going ‘ooh’ – Ravenloft. But generic D&D is, well, generic fantasy at this point. Why buy the license if you’re just going to reference the rules-set?

In the Mail and Early, to Boot: The Nightmare Stacks.

A day early: all hail the power of hyper-efficient Amazon delivery systems! A… suggestion? If you have not effectively memorized* Terry Pratchett’s Lords and Ladies at this point, perhaps you should go read that book first. You’re gonna need that mindset up and running, methinks.

*You have, of course, at least read it, yes? – Because if you have not, well, this is what you need to do this week. The only reason why I’m not calling it Pratchett’s best book is because sussing out which is Terry Pratchett’s best book isn’t something that you do lightly.

Quote of the Day, News About Moonfall, Ah, *Drops* edition.

Oh, dear:

Just before ID4-2 bows, Universal has closed a deal (per Deadline)with Roland Emmerich to keep his disaster movie streak going with MOONFALL. I’ll give you two guesses as to what the movie’s about based on the title.

Oh, to be able to go back in time to the 1950s and give the B-movie Atomic Horror film companies access to really, really good CGI.  What magnificent schlock they would produce!  It would be a Radium Age of cinema…
