Dammit, this is the Overwatch I want to play.

(Via GameTyrant) I have nothing against the Overwatch that they gave us – it’s by all accounts a fun game – but it’s not what triggers the right circuits in my brain.  This does. This totally does:

  1. A Blizzard cinematic far outstripping the actual game in terms of depth, storyline, and overall appeal?

    Say it ain’t so!

    1. To be fair, 99% of Overwatch storyline are told in the form of these videos, comics and other sources. They literally have no other mean of delivery story.

      1. Yeah, but that was mostly true for the various iterations of Diablo, too. Just with this handy internet thing, we can see the cinematics without playing the game.

  2. No one ever accused Blizzard of not being able to do a trailer. I am continuously surprised at the quality of their movies. I went back and rewatched a Wrath of the Lich King cinematic and was struck again by how well they do in this particular medium.

Their gameplay is usually top notch.
Their story told through cinematics is usually very good.
They know how to craft a scene and tell a story (their cinematics show this) but they seem to have major issues when it comes to telling a story through gameplay.

Combine the power of Blizzard and Bioware and the world is at their feet?

  3. A good chunk (if not all) of the background story and setting is the remnants of Blizzard’s Titan MMO project that grew too big and collapsed under its own weight. So, they have a wealth of lore to pull from for many projects. I hope they keep plumbing this setting for other game types.

    1. I would be shocked if they weren’t working on a Destiny-style shared world FPS. The current PvP game already has them halfway there, and has locked in an excellent player base to build from.

Overwatch, but in an open world.
      Now that’s a sales pitch.
