Item: Belt of Social Awkwardness.

Belt of Social Awkwardness

Sometimes, when you create a magic item, you do something wrong and come up with something that you didn’t actually want.  And sometimes it turns out that you can duplicate the process.  That’s what happened with Belts of Social Awkwardness: the enchanter was going for something that would boost charisma.  What she got was a belt that gives the wearer a psychic signature of “This person is not interesting, he doesn’t really fit in, avoid eye contact lest you get sucked into a soul-destroying conversation about boring things.”

…Yeah, there’s a current order backlog of about a year on these items.  The enchanter may need to hire another apprentice to keep up with the demand from the regional Thieves, Assassins, and Spy guilds.  The item isn’t perfect – it needs an appropriate disguise – but if you want to wander through a dinner party and never have anybody check you for weapons or contraband, it’s downright ideal. Only drawback is, Belts of Social Awkwardness show up on standard magical scans, so the items are often secondarily enchanted with something flashy, like a very bad, short-range charisma spell.  The charisma spell doesn’t even have to work!  Better if it doesn’t, really.
