Turned it on yesterday, and they’re already 300% funded. Penny Arcade is kind of frightening, sometimes. In a good way, to be sure; but they are the Alpha Ultra-Ninja Grandmaster Flash Nerds, huh? – Said he, with pure admiring envy in his voice.
They’ve handled their fame better than most, I’d say. Even knew when to dial back their expansion into being a gaming news site. They tend not to double down on things that don’t work.
They also know not to alienate half their audience with self-righteous posturing.
You are right. A few months back, Moe went on twitter lamenting that an online comic he read got political. I had not read PA for a few days and all I can think was “Please don’t be PA!!! Please don’t be PA!!!”. I visited their site and fortunately it was not political at all:) Phew!!!
