Given the feel, and a bit more world-build, I think this could be a very nice “story via memoir” – see what John Ringo’s gotten up to in Larry Correia’s Monster Hunter universe – or “story via collection of shorts” ala Keith Laumer’s Retief… (http://www.baen.com/Chapters/0671318578/0671318578.htm)

Will second that I enjoyed this tale as well. Looking forward to the short-story version and possible novella prior to it being a multibook series and HBO show
