‘1636: The Ottoman Onslaught’ finally dropped on Baen Ebooks.

This is the Advanced Reader’s Copy of 1636: The Ottoman Onslaught, of course.  I know some people don’t like those, but I can live with the occasional grammatical error and glitch in exchange for getting the book early – so I’m going to keep mentioning these when they come out and that’s just the way it is, folks.  Alas, alack.

Also alas, alack: haven’t had a chance to read it yet.  Combination of kid’s homework, roast chicken cooking, and the usual… usual.  You’d think that I’d figure out by now that the best anodyne is work…

  1. Related question: a couple months back you posted about the new Honorverse ARC, and said that you were excited about seeing the storyline advance.

What were your thoughts on that book?

      1. I’m okay with backstory, I just getting a bit disappointed that there’s no _front_story. It feels like we’re bordering on “Wheel of Time books 8-10” syndrome here. Lots of words, not much plot movement.

We’ve got a whole bunch of interesting plot points hanging out there. Would be nice to see what actually happens, and this book didn’t do nearly as much of that as I’d hoped.

I still love me some Weber, but his writing style has definitely changed over the years. If you go back to some of the early stuff like “On Basilisk Station” or “Mutineers’ Moon”, there was a lot less verbage and a lot more stuff happening.

Ah, well. Just have to wait for the next book, I guess…

        1. And speaking of Honorverse stuff, is there any word on when we can expect House of Lies to come out?

      2. My issue with it was the grammatical (and other) errors. That and the lack of new story and Honor herself, of course.

Now, the eARC for Monster Hunter Memoirs: Grunge was largely free from those. It was worth the extra scratch. Just for what Courtney Love really is and what devastation she hath wrought. Like, you know? *California Rolls*.

        1. *shudder*

What’d ya make of “Monster Hunter: Sinners” ?
