Ooh. Mass Effect 2 is free on Origin.

Just the standard version, though.  This was actually the first Mass Effect game that I played; I went back and played the first one through, then ran through Mass Effect 2 again. Turns out it’s almost a completely different game if you load up a Paragon gamesave from the first installment.  A better one, honestly.  Default Shepard was a bit of a twerp.

PS: I mean, GOD. Who the heck kills off Wrex?  Yes, that resentment still burns within me.

  1. This is why I have not gone back and played through the series: I have to have everything just so in the play through. Even to the point of doing the tedious quest where you find the mirror ball on the one planet that pays off in a very indirect way in the third game.

  2. Seriously! Kaiden, maybe, but not Wrex. Mind you in Mass Effect 2 I did a playthrough specifically to kill Jacob. What a stiff.

      1. Renegades. You can’t intimidate Wrex, and it’s very likely you haven’t stumbled across his loyalty mission.
I discovered this on my second play-through. Since I’d gone King of the Boy Scouts with maxed persuasion on the first playthrough, I was unpleasantly shocked to find I couldn’t talk him down on the second.

I saved Kaiden over Ashley the first run through. Since I’d publicly and unprofessionally (also, inadvertantly) been flirting with her, I couldn’t be seen showing her favoritism if I wanted to keep the respect of my troops.
Turns out the troops had a massive and unexpected blindspot about the subject. So I saved her on every playthrough thereafter.
