It absolutely looks like a cartoon or CGI, but no, that’s actual lava at Kilauea:
I thought that I went to see that volcano when my wife and I went to Hawaii in ’08, but Wikipedia has convinced me that we were actually at Haleakalā National Park. Either way: volcanoes are fascinating places. If you have a chance to go look at one, take it.
