The Obligatory ‘Justice League’ trailer.

Well. It looks more… actiony? That’s good, right? Still: SOMEBODY TAKE AWAY COSTUMING’S BLACK INK. THEY HAVE ABUSED THE PRIVILEGE OF THE DYE CLOSET.

  1. I honestly don’t get why DC keeps trying to make Aquaman a mainstream superhero. I mean, what exactly are his powers? Talks to fish and a good swimmer?

    1. You know how John Carter was the original inspiration for Superman?
Aquaman was originally inspired by King Kull. An adventurer who seized the throne of a dangerous and decadent ancient kingdom, and wrestled with melancholy afterward. (As well as the occasional Eldritch Horror.)
He was bowdlerized after the Comics Code Authority took power, and became much less interesting. The Silver Age hit him particularly hard (but not as badly as Superfriends!)
They’re going back to the well on this one. Aquaman is neither Cape nor Cowl. In his popular incarnations, he’s a straight up barbarian hero. (And like Wonder Woman, he runs on fantasy tropes.)

  2. Yep. Bruce Wayne’s superpower is that he’s rich. Well, richer than the rest of the team combine by a couple of order of magnitude.

    1. I always considered Batman’s inherent .. nuts-ness .. as his superpower.

It’s not just that he’s rich. Lots of people with “old money” don’t fight crime.
      .
It’s not just that he’s got Wayne Enterprises R&D department working for him. Lots of R&D in this country, and you don’t see all that many people running around in spandex and kevlar, beating on thugs.
      .
It’s not even that he treats Arkahm Asylum like a holding pen, or Gotham like a private hunting preserve .. catch Joker, put him in Arkham for a while, knowing full well he’ll escape … and the game will be on again.. I figure that’s some combination of really bad planning, really corrupt Gotham, and .. did I mention nuts?
      .
No, what makes Batman work is simply the inherent faith that not only can one man make a difference, that one man with old money and an R&D department can make a big enough difference to warrant the pain.

  3. I dig the shots we’ve had of the Flash here, and “barbarian king” Aquaman has a certain appeal. But we’re missing a rather vital character, without whom they haven’t a hope of winning. How well handled “he’s back” is will certainly have something to do with how good the movie itself is.
