The day has finally arrived…

…earlier than I expected, too. I was half-assuming that the new video card would show up on Saturday or something.  Go Newegg.com.  Seriously, I have yet to have a problem with the way that they do business.

Now all I need is the new memory – should be coming tonight, if Amazon.com can be trusted – and then I can drop it off at the computer store, go see Guardians of the Galaxy, come back, pick it up, and have it all nice and upgraded for the weekend. What’s that?  Nah, I’ll let a professional install it all for me.  I mean, I know how to, but since I do know how to I’m going to let somebody who does it for a living do it.

I do wonder just how much of a difference this going to make from my current 3GB video card and 8GB of memory.

  1. As with all things, it depends. If you play your games with all the graphics settings set to max at resolutions higher than 1080, you should notice a boost, if you play with more modest settings you might not notice so much, but you’ll now have the ability to crank up the settings. 16 GB should allow you to have a lot more programs up and running at the same time without paging, so that’s where you’ll notice an improvement, being able to switch from program to program with little to no lag.

    1. The main thing I notice from having more system RAM is that I can go longer before I have to close my chrome processes with my gmail/hangouts tabs up in them.
