Tweet of the Day, This DOES Encapsulate Ron Howard’s Han Solo Movie Problem edition.

Yeah, it’s pretty much official: Ron Howard has taken over directing the Han Solo flick, and the “Help me, Opie-Wan” jokes are already blossoming all over the Internet.  And the dread pronouncements of the word “Willow.” And the folks asking if there’s going to be any narration by Howard.

So finding somebody saying something new to say was a bit of a challenge:

Mind you, Apollo 13?  Great movie. This sequence? THE BEST DAMN SEQUENCE IN THAT MOVIE. I am probably biased because I’m married to a roboticist, but: this is Heroic Engineering at its finest. And since Ron Howard directed Apollo 13, it does give me some hope that the man might be able to pull this particular emergency repair job off.

  1. The greatest thing about Apollo 13 is that it showed that white, square engineers were the heroes- a group that does not get a lot of love these days.

    1. Yep, and “Hidden Figures” turned ’em into .. a mix of flawed people.
      .
Not that “Hidden Figures” was bad, mind .. but it definitely oversimplified things a tad.

  2. It also spawned the absolutely incredible From the Earth to the Moon mini-series on HBO from Tom Hanks.

It’s kind of amazing that America hit both its peak and nadir about the same time….

  3. My uncle was one of those engineers… nobody in the family told me until I was almost 30. And they all knew I was a huge space buff when I was a kid, even took me to Cape Canavaral.
