Video Clip of the Day, Speedy Gonzales Talks To Your Kids About Drugs edition.

I saw this mentioned on one of those clickbait sites, but I didn’t believe it.  But, believe it or not, Speedy Gonzales won an Oscar in 1955 apparently because nobody noticed the bit about weed.  Of course, it was in Spanish, and we’ve long known that you can sneak pretty much any swear word into broadcast television as long as it’s not from English*.

According to Wikipedia, this is a political lyric from the 1910 Mexican Revolution:

La cucaracha, la cucaracha,
ya no puede caminar
porque no tiene, porque le falta
marihuana que fumar.

The cockroach, the cockroach,
can’t walk anymore
because it doesn’t have, because it’s lacking
marijuana to smoke.

I don’t know why, but this may be the funniest dang thing I’ve seen today.

  1. As long as it’s not American English, even. Just look at Johnny Depp, getting away with saying ‘bugger’ repeatedly in multiple Disney movies.
