Tweet of the Day, Clever Girl edition.

So I kept seeing this:

I’m kind of chill about it, though.  Yes, I get why people are worried about headless robots that can open doors.  On the other hand, that looks like a robot that could go to the fridge and get me a beer, which is by definition an excellent robot that would be a valued part of any family.  And, on the gripping hand, all demos are faked. That video took a lot of time to set up.

  1. Beer one day. A knife the next day.

Nothing, NOTHING, good can come out of Real Artificial Intelligence (AI). Real AI can reprogram itself and any safe-guards and/or ethics we can program into it, can be deleted and/or ignored. Real AI will also not identify as humanoid and will not have the same experiences as humans. Real AI will also be IMMORTAL and thus will not share our survival concerns.

  2. Well, there’s two possibilities here. First is that this was all autonomous activity, in which case I am very impressed (and also highly skeptical, but I suppose it’s a nut they’ll crack eventually).

The other possibility (and I think more likely and less terrifying) is that there were two people off screen with RF controllers making everything happen. Still impressive, but we don’t have to worry about being overrun by robot dog things. Yet.
