The Nintendo Switch is remarkably easy to set up.

It’s not quite plug-and-play, but my wife and I had scheduled about an hour to put together and set up the Nintendo Switch for my eldest, and it took about ten minutes. And half of that was creating profiles for my children. I’m pleasantly surprised.  I didn’t even have to fiddle with the wires; my TV had a spare HDMI port. As soon as everything charges up, they should be good to go.

If I sound bemused, it’s because I am.  I find it disquieting when it’s easy to set up a video game console. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop; or, possibly, the circuit breaker to short out.

That’s because you’re thinking in terms of PC or the other consoles.

Nintendo’s different. You can give a 3DS to a kid who can barely read and they can set it up.

    1. I recall that sometime back, Moe was marveling at how simple it had gotten to set up PCs these days, too.

      1. I don’t require the kids to get off of my lawn: but I expect them to put their trash in the designated receptacle and not play any music with the really nasty profanity. And don’t mix your damned drinks, you idjits. Shots are a sometimes drink.

  2. “my TV had a spare HDMI port.”

This was the hidden, deep magic part of the story.

    1. Two-three HDMI ports is becoming much more common. I have an inexpensive Vizio I bought like 4 years ago, and it has 3 HDMI inputs, as well as 3 or 4 others (coax, 3- and 5- RCA connector, USB, blah blah blah).

    2. Indeed .. although the number of HDMI ports have been steadily multiplying like rabbits ..
