First look at the Shazam costume.

So, about the Shazam costume.

It’s… ‘interesting’ is the best word, really.  I’m not loving Zachary Levi as Captain Marvel here — although that might be the fact that his face looks weird* from drinking out of a straw. I’m also kind of dreading what could happen when our post-earnest age does any kind of work with a character that is pretty much nothing but earnestness.

Still.  That costume looks a heck of a lot better than what I’m used to from the DCEU (is this even DCEU?). Primary colors, bright, not grim… if I didn’t know better, I’d think that maybe this movie would take the position that it’s kind of cool to be a superhero.

…Nah.  That’s crazytalk.

*Dude was Flynn Rider from Tangled, which was good and so was he, so I’m not worried about the voice so much.

  1. I remember watching the TV show. At least I think I do. It might be one of those false memories. But I’m pretty sure I watched a TV show called Shazam when I was young and impressionable.

There was a TV show, right?

  2. His work as one of the Warriors Three was so brief as to be almost blink-and-you-miss it, but he was good as Flynn Rider and very good in the TV series Chuck, so I’m willing to be optimistic about this one.

Thanks for the tip on Deadpool 2, I’ve had my hopes up for that one and it sounds like it will be fun.

  3. I expect it to suck.
    .
If it weren’t for the first couple seasons of The Flash, I wouldn’t have hope.
But I do, and it’s cruel.
Because DC has been quite clear that Truth, Justice, and the American Way have been replaced by Victim Narrative, Social Justice, and the Evil Patriarchy. The earnest Cape fantasy-of-power that Captain Marvel is the epitome of, is something that SJWs hate, fear, and do not grok.
