Why I probably won’t get back into Elder Scrolls Online.

I kind of want to get back into Elder Scrolls Online. It’s a fun MMO, with good writing and decent combat.  I don’t really have a good guild relationship in it yet, but I’m sure that I could find one.

But dear Lord those updates are killer.  As in, don’t play for any length of time and you lose most of the day.  I don’t know if this is the rule for other MMOs like WoW, but it drove me sufficiently nuts that I haven’t played in a year (which makes the updates worse, obviously) and I’m on the verge of canceling my subscription.  About the only thing stopping me is that I’m afraid that I’d have to update the game to get to the point where I could cancel…

[UPDATE]: Woops! Hit Publish too soon. The new Summerset expansion sounds like it’s going to be fun.

  1. Does the subscription cost money? If so, and if you haven’t played in a year, then why keep sinking money into something that provides you no benefit? Go find someone (or someones, plural) on Patreon to support with that money, instead. You’ll get more benefit for it. Heck, I’ll go put something up on Patreon to advertise the write-ups for the RPG campaign I ran for five years. By the time the campaign wrapped up, I had over half a million words documenting the antics of the party throughout the course of the campaign. With some editing, it’d probably be a passable fantasy story. 🙂

      1. Oh, without a doubt. Although there weren’t many people posting them on the internet back when I did 20 years ago (or they were much harder to find).
