Huh. Apparently ‘Overlord’ doesn’t suck?

Early reviews for Overlord are promising.

Apparently JJ Abrams made a decent war movie that also had a metric ton of zombies in it.  I can dig it.  For his sake, I had better be; I’m probably Abrams target audience.

Overlord comes out November 9th.

PS: If you’re wondering how a black dude is fighting alongside white dudes in World War II, it’s apparently because of LOOK OVER THERE! NAZI ZOMBIES!  I can likewise dig it. Because, really, not stopping to explain worked out just fine for Captain America: The First Avenger and I’d be there for the aforementioned Nazi Zombies anyway.

  1. It’s easier to just consider it an alternate history. I watched “Noah” last night and once I decided to consider it a fantasy film, it was actually pretty good. It’s all about framing.

  2. Obviously his file got mislabeled/swapped at some point and he has been too busy fighting nazi zombies for the changed orders to catch up with him.

  3. There’s not really an issue with it in Captain America. There were black troops over in Europe fighting on the front lines, including in Italy (iirc, there was at least one infantry division, though I can’t remember which one off the top of my head; my vague recollection is that it performed disappointingly, though that might have been due to the low expectations of the white officers). It’s not out of the realm of possibility that some would be captured by Hydra’s forces. And then once they were free, there would be no problem with Cap recruiting one of them – especially since the man in question was apparently the only guy on the team who could speak both French and English.

  4. Eh, it could’ve happened .. people get a lot more accepting of different skin tones working together when there’s other people shooting at ’em ..

That said .. that integrated units wasn’t the official policy remains a national disgrace.

    1. It’s not a national disgrace, It’s yet another Democratic one.
Never forget or fail to remind people that that Prog assh*le Woodrow Wilson RE-SEGREGATED the armed forces. And its Teddy Roosevelt’s fault, since WW never wins if TR doesn’t upset Taft’s applecart in 1912 .

      1. That’s one of the fascinating things about SM Stirling’s new alternate-history series: TR was just as much a Progressive as WW was, except of course for being an America-first patriot with neither the need nor the desire to indulge Jim Crow bigots.

        1. I read that based on your recommendation, which brings up the problem, a week is far too short a time for me to acquire and consume most novels, so…. to avoid commenting on old theads, what should one do, or how will you address this? Repost a book for discussion in say three weeks, append it to the weekly post as a dual thread in about a month, tell us to suffer in silence and be grateful for what little lit talk we get?
