Third headless crocodile found in Queensland.

No, really.

For the third time in as many months a crocodile has been found decapitated in northern Queensland.

The three-metre saltwater crocodile was found near the Gulf of Carpentaria town of Karumba, after similar incidents in Mount Isa and Innisfail in August.

(Via Facebook) Whoever is doing this is taking the head but not the hide.  Which is weird, because crocodile hide is valuable on its own and saltwater crocodiles are a protected species in Australia (that, alas, makes the hides worth even more on the black market).  It’s still probably poachers, but somebody put it on a Call of Cthulhu Facebook page for the same reason that I’m putting it here: the adventure scenario practically writes itself.

    1. Are they making masks, or are they grafting crocodile heads onto human bodies in an eldritch rite of ascension. The first 2 tries drove the unfortunate victim mad as their god’s power consumed them. But they learned much from their failure and on the night of the next new moon they will be prepared! Then, all who dared mock them will be punished and consumed in the fire of Sobek’s wrath! Muwahahahahahah!

  1. Even crazier theory: It is the restless ghost of Steve Irwin, come back from the dead to bring doom upon those who betrayed him in life!

    1. One would think his revenant would be after the scourge of Sting Rays. The bisected corvettes would stretch from here to Detroit.

Although I cannot see Steve Irwin as an angry shade. The man was the very definition of an animal lover and daredevil.

Rest in Peace, you crazy, happy Australian dude.
