Well, it’s going to be a sad day here tomorrow at Chez Lane.

The cat is… well, failing.  He’s an old, hardscrabble cat and it caught up to him eventually.  My kids are going to be disconsolate and I’m not taking it perfectly well, myself*.  But that’s what happens when you have a pet with a lifespan less than yours.  You know this, going in.

Yeah.  Sure you do.

  1. Is he still drinking water? If he is he’s not going to die. If he isn’t then you might have to force feed him, pure fish oil will be good, anything with castor oil is poison. Been through this many times. They can go days without food but 3 days without fluids and they die.
Any idea how long he was stray? If he’s been a stray from infancy You may be out of luck. Been there done that nothing you can do.
I suggest a kitten or two to replace the one you lost That helps. Used to have two cats who would sneak out and find the replacements, it does work especially with the kids.

  2. If you can find a can of mackerel or sardines in water they’re usually good for force feeding the cat till he gets better, they do have nine lives! Had a lot of cats die of old age for the way they lived, sometimes there is nothing you can do. Took in a lot of strays. Oh and you’ll know when he’s better, too!

  3. I’m sorry to hear of this, Moe.

Giver-of-food is a significant role, and works in both directions.
