Warner Bros greenlights horror Aquaman-spinoff “The Trench.”

It’s Mythos time, boychik:

Warners has hired newbie scribes Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald to pen a horror-tinged script centered on the Trench, the deadly amphibious creatures seen attacking the hero and his love, Mera, inĀ Aquaman.

Wan and Peter Safran will produce the project, titledĀ The Trench, which would be much more modestly budgeted than the normal DC superhero tentpole.

If you watched Aquaman, you noticed pretty quickly that Arthur’s dad was a Lovecraft fan, and there’s a lot of Lovecraft-inspired imagery in the film (Philosophical mindset? Eh, not so much). There’s stuff during the movie that absolutely had me almost wishing that we were getting an Aquaman-themed horror flick. Which is not quite what we’re getting here — none of the characters from the movie will be in this one — but gee, shucks, and darn: guess I’ll just have to be satisfied with a major movie company making a horror flick about Deep Ones who have had their serial numbers filed off.

How can I possibly hope to live with this crushing disappointment?
