Brightburn is kind of subversive, isn’t it?
And I don’t mean in the ‘What if Superman was a horror story*?’ way, either. I mean, ‘What if Jonathan Kent was a jackwagon who clearly never wanted kids and who never treated this one as his son?’ — Because Brandon here is clearly suffering from the lack of a responsible father figure. And the theme of fatherhood featured largely in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, come to think of it. Go figure.

*As I’ve noted before, I am cool with that concept for a horror movie. ‘Subversion of beloved people and concepts’ is one of the things that horror movies are about. And if you take away Superman’s moral code, all that you’re left with is… an Ubermench.
I agree it’s an interesting concept. As I avoid horror that isn’t Cthulhu-mythos, I’ll pass on this one.
