Ya, sure, you betcha: Dark Phoenix was always gonna be the last Fox X-Men flick.

I don’t care. Burn it, Jean Grey.

When Disney was going to take over Fox we all knew that meant the X-Men franchise that Fox has been producing over the years was going to end. Well, according to X-Men: Dark Phoenix producer Hutch Parker, that’s not the reason why Dark Phoenix is going to be the last X-Men film in the Fox franchise.

According to Parker, Dark Phoenix was always meant to be the film to close out the franchise. While talking to CB at WonderCon, he explained that the development of the project led them to a “natural culmination.”

BURN IT ALL. I don’t even hate the series; I saw the ones that I wanted to see, liked the ones that I saw, and wish everyone who made them well. But all must be still subjected to the purifying flames. I say this without malice, but with a certain implacable resolve. It is time for the Phoenix to consume that story, so that it might be regenerated and reborn.

For all must submit to the Revelatory Conflagration.

Note that I know that Deadpool is in this universe, but he’s got a healing factor; he’ll just regenerate.

  1. He’s also got fourth wall powers, and when he shows up in Disney Marvel movies, he can make jokes about it which nobody else could possibly understand.
