Tweet of the Day, Yes, Indeed, That Hole of Yours Is Very Impressive edition.

Now I’m only doing this because I know it’s making people grit their teeth. And it’s not even people I dislike. I apparently just feel like being a pain in the… ah, never mind.

Seriously, though: it’s amazing that we were able to combine global resources to get a proper look at this black hole (the non-black portions are part of the gas halo around the whole, and are incidentally from fifty million years ago or so). Bit by bit, the future assembles itself. Exciting times, yes?

  1. It checks out with Hawking’s thesis that black holes radiate due to high energy particles/light bending around it.

    1. People are taking this opportunity to make very crude and primate-like jokes about holes. Also, Uranus, despite the fact that the hole is nowhere near Uranus..

  2. I see neither the USS Palomino nor the USS Cygnus. I question the authenticity of this image. 🙂
