The Captain Marvel Honest Trailer.

It’s very insightful — which is to say, it matched my opinion of the movie. I never thought that Captain Marvel was actually bad for what it was, which was a Marvel origin story. It occurs to me that that’s the problem that most Marvel origin stories had: they’re only origin stories, instead of the ‘superhero + something else’ model that the best MCU flicks have*.

If I could rewrite time and was willing to spend lifespan on fixing this, I’d tell Marvel to keep the Skrulls for the second movie and make this one about Danvers embracing the 1990s. I mean, really, really embracing it. Just scarf down all that Nineties nostalgia and then shoot it out her fingertips.

Still, good Honest Trailer. There’s one joke in there that you’ll have to… oh, I won’t spoil the surprise. It did make me laugh.

Moe Lane

*Ant-Man has the advantage of being an origin story and a heist caper. Not at all coincidentally, it’s one of the best movies in the MCU and I don’t care if people say otherwise.

I’m not sure which of the jokes you’re referencing but .. yeah, it’s got a higher joke/content ratio than most Honest Trailers.

That said .. I’ll take issue with the formula thusly, Moe ..
    .
Guardians of the Galaxy was an origin story .. Guardians ][ was “superhero + something else” .. and the first was **far better** .. and not just because the only good song on the 2nd soundtrack **wasn’t actually in the film**.

I take your point, but I will partially push back by pointing out that the first Guardians was just flat-out NUTS. That was the movie that first made me go You know, maybe they can put together this MCU thing that they’re aiming at. Because if you can make a talking raccoon and a walking tree badass, you can do anything…

        That’s .. actually the problem.
        .
Having established Rocket and Groot as bad-asses, Guardians ][ spent almost the entire movie with ’em .. either off-screen or as cardboard props while Star Lord worked through his daddy issues.
        .
Guardians ][ could’ve been a much better film .. alas, it went to the opposite extreme of Thor: Ragnarok.
        .
Where Ragnarok didn’t put enough weight on Thor’s emotional gut-punch of the fall of Odin and Asgard, Guardians ][ put too much weight on Star Lord and Ego.
