So, is Terminator: Dark Fate really just Terminator 3.1?

Mayyyyyybe. “During the panel for Terminator: Dark Fate, producer James Cameron did a live stream from the set of the Avatar sequels to talk about the film a little bit. One of the major pieces of news he dropped during this live stream was that Edward Furlong was back to reprise his role as John Connor…”

Hamilton, Schwarzenegger, and now Furlong. That’s essentially three-quarters* of everybody you remember from Terminator 2, and the fourth — the name you’re trying to look up is ‘Robert Patrick’ — doesn’t really work in this context, given that he was a living metal killing machine and as such likely doesn’t age**. So if they’re just going to pretend that all the other movies didn’t happen, well, OK? They got away with it for the Halloween sequel; if this flick ain’t bad, it might work.

PS: Yeah, there were a ton of movie trailers dropping today. I’m still trying to decide which ones bemuse me, which ones appall me, and which ones make me shake my head.

*4/5 if you count Cameron.

**Although there’s some sort of weird double Terminator thing going on there, and one of them is liquid metal, so it’d be awesome if Patrick got a cameo or something.

  1. You know from various movies that de-aging technology is getting pretty good. Don’t know if it’s strong enough to hold up for a whole movie, though.

    .

The big problem is if the T-1000 did return, I’m not sure how they could justify it looking like Robert Patrick (unless they do that “return to the events of a previous movie” bit like they did in TG, which everybody seemed to hate).
