SMDH over THE HUNT trailer.

THE HUNT would look a lot better if the premise was just a little less absurd. I mean, I like the idea of ‘woman with a shotgun and ice water in her veins shoots her way through a diabolical theme park.’ I’ll play that video game. I have played that video game, more or less.

But dear Lord… where on Earth did the notion that there is an elite cadre of murder cultists running civilization that would be at all competent come from? They can’t even run ordinary, twisted sex cults anymore without spilling the beans; it beggars belief that somebody would be able to run yearly human hunts without anybody noticing, talking, or just f*cking it up catastrophically in the first year. If a decade in The Life did anything for me, it spoiled movies like this forever. I see the trailers for one, and I wonder how on earth the elites keep that one staffer with the substance abuse problem and a need to matter from doing a tell-all*.

Yeah, yeah, I know: these are metaphors for the stuff that people who make movies find scary. Still. They could find better metaphors. Or maybe not be scared so often? No, wait, that’s crazy talk.

*All of those elites in that movie have bitter enemies that weren’t invited to the murder hunts. And those enemies are probably spiteful about not getting an invitation, too. Spite and bitterness can be surprisingly useful tools in the reform toolbox… but I say too much.
