THE IRISHMAN looks real promising. It’s going to be a organized crime film starring Joe Pesci, Al Pacino, and Robert De Niro, with Martin Scorsese directing. As EsotericCD noted on Twitter, this is gonna be either an epic get for Netflix, an epic bomb, or possibly both.
Kind of agree with that; with that kind of star wattage, you’d think that Scorsese would have been able to get this picture picked up by the studios. But either Scorsese didn’t want to, or else he couldn’t. Guess we’ll know which one it was when the film hits Netflix this fall*.

*Oh, hey, Harvey Keitel’s in this, too! Which isn’t really a surprise, honestly. It seems like the kind of project where Scorsese might say at one point Hey, somebody go call Harvey and see if he’s availa — oh, hey, you’re here already.
As more and more people just watch things from the La-Z-Boy™, I wonder what kind of cut Scorsese makes with this deal vs. the notorious Studio Accounting and Distribution rackets.

I also wonder if this is part of a continued play by Netflix to *become* a studio. They produce enough content, and the pure distribution market grows crowded.
Amazon and Netflix can both see the writing on the wall .. the “distribution” market is about to enter Interesting Times ..

I really don’t see “every stuido and network has their own subscription service” (Disney+, CBS All Access, etc.) lasting more’n 2-4 years .. but there’s gonna be enough jumping in to make a big wave.

Amazon can ride this, as long as they don’t get broken up. WalMart’s Vudu is in the same boat but less likely to get broken up. The rest .. we’ll see.

Netflix, and to a lesser extent Amazon, are clearly interested in leveraging their existing business to create a new one .. sadly, the cat household will choose only one, and it will be Amazon.

If I must pick one, Amazon it would be.
Prime shipping saves me more than the cost of Prime every year .. so it stays .. and that makes choosing Prime Video easy.
