    1. From what I can tell, TikTok is filling the void Vine left when it was killed off: Short pithy videos. Old Twitter but with a camera. I expect a similar impact on the quality of social media discourse.

      1. Yeah, I’m just looking at the trendlines and projecting out. I take Moe’s comment that this is helpful info to mean that he is more interested in which of these platforms is going to be the most useful for marketing purposes, rather than quality content per se. NONE of this shit has a salutary effect on society, but it can be very useful for self-promotion. The problem is seeing in advance where to put your efforts (and your dollars).

        1. Ironically, this makes TikTok a good play for visual advertising .. imagine the Arby’s TikTok channel ..

The whole thing is .. undermining the proximity aspects in the definition of “society”.

  1. This tracks. I think Reddit will eventually swap places with Tumblr, unless someone restores Reddit to its anarchistic roots.

  2. Fascinating, how Google keeps launching stuff .. and it keeps failing. Orkut was their best effort so far .. although they did buy YouTube and haven’t turned it into Google+ yet, so ..

    1. They’re on their way to smothering YT, as a creative platform at least. They have little regard for newer small-time creators anymore, and have devolved into an archive/advertising for the Studio System, with all the garbage that entails.
