So, the critic responses to STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER are interesting.

I’m still scrolling through all the critical ones (57% on Rotten Tomatoes or suchlike), but the common theme so far seems to be, as a friend of mine put it on Twitter: “We loved The Last Jedi, how dare you mess with that.” …I’m not saying that anybody should plan to see STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER just because it’s getting whaled on by people whose judgement you take lightly. Watch — or watch not; there is no requirement. But I think that you can permit yourself the indulgence of a dollop of schadenfreude.

But just a dollop! It’s Christmas, after all.

  1. That seems pretty predictable. I’m curious to see what Sonny &c have to say about it, but I’ve been expecting it to be a hot mess for basically two years.

  2. There was a rumor floating around that the original script approved by Kathleen Kennedy was so bad that Iger himself got involved in rewriting it, and Lucas was brought in for consultation before everything was done. Of course, I’ve no idea if that’s actually true, and it does sound unlikely.

But I have to admit that I’d like it to be true.

LOL. True or not, I quit this franchise a long time ago because it was far, far away from being worth my time.

      1. Heh. It’s, at heart, a “prince and princess” story, with Japanese flavor elements and heavy science fiction tropes.

Should be right up Disney’s alley, but .. they have to shed a sh*tton of Lucas-drones to get there.

Totally unrelated .. just *how* far before ‘Rise of JarJar’ does ‘Mandalorian’ fit in?

Asking because I’m still waiting to see how Disney ever lets “the first three” sequels out of the vault without heavy editing and retcon…

  3. Meanwhile The Mandalorian Chapter 7 dropped today instead of the usual Friday. It continue to NOT SUCK. It’s more than NOT SUCK, it’s literally the best Star War since Empire Strikes Back.

  4. My expectations are through the floor for this movie right now. Unless it gets really good reviews, i think I’ll wait for the library to get it on DVD.
