RIP, Christopher Tolkien.

Christopher Tolkien had an odd destiny to fill, but I think that he reached it. Modern fantasy would look just a bit different without his steady, largely unheralded efforts. My condolences and prayers to his family and loved ones.

While I have (ahem) mixed emotions about some of his late-life additions to the lore (I’m looking at you, Children of Hurin), we wouldn’t have all the good stuff that came before without his efforts to make his father’s legacy available to dreamers everywhere.
And we would all be much poorer for it.

    .
    Rest in Peace.

    Christopher Tolkien: Husband, Father, Son.

He was more than that, of course, but just those three words suggest a life well lived and more productive than most these days.
