End of week update, Stayintine.

We’re fine, with the possible exception of me: I either am dealing with allergies, a throat virus, or strep. No fever, at least, so it’s probably not strep. Probably. Other than that, we’re sheltering in place informally until the governor decides that it’s time to do so formally. So… all right, I guess?

How are you folks doing?

PS: Be kind to each other. I swear to God, some of those people online, it’s a wonder that they don’t have spoons being bounced off of their foreheads.

  1. I got a prescription refilled, so I brought home a fresh bottle of gin and am having a martini with a twist. Which has too much vermouth in it to earn the late Judge Bork’s approval.
    .
It’s a nice change from the whisky, though.

While I was out, I was struck by how poorly everyone (self included) was driving. I suppose we’re all distracted, though I’d also wager that mean driver IQ was below average because the *smart* people *stayed home*. (We don’t have a shelter-in-place order here, yet, either, I think, but it sure seems like it’s coming.)

      1. A synthetic variant of Quinine, I guess. Probably different, but why chance it? 😉

        1. I had a beer and delivered ribs yesterday. Oh, God, it was so wonderful. We’re going to fire up the grill over the next two days, too. Weather’s gotten real nice for it.

      2. Sadly, I have heard that the typical gin and tonic doesn’t contain enough quinine to be effective against malaria, so I doubt it’s much good against our current plague, either.

At the same time, I do have a bottle of tonic water, and it would be such a shame for it to be wasted.

        1. One G&T doesn’t always work? Best have two, then, to be sure. I figure it’s safe to say that, since nobody’s driving anywhere right now.

  2. They closed the schools up here in northern Maine. Whether or not is warranted is a matter of debate. It’s hard to take people seriously when they say “we’re closing the school because gathering people together is not safe right now” and then in the next breath they say “but the staff has to come in…and gather together in the cafeteria for an entire morning so we can tell you about how dangerous this virus is.” As soon as they said that, I said, “I would like to use my sick days until this blows over.”

So I’m sitting at home right now. I finished the 4th revision of my book, cutting it down from 125,600 to just a tad over 114,000. My brother is working on some cover art for me. I’m also doing a lot of Duolingo (German) and I’ve enrolled in the Online Academy of Irish Music for some Tin Whistle lessons.

      1. Not that word count. That 12000 or so words was like the black stuff stuck in your air filter right before you change it out.

    1. You too eh? We “essential employees” are still showing at The University in Orono because no one’s figured out how to set up remote a remote IT call-center yet.
      .
Although with the first plague case showing up in Penobscot County this week may finally knock sense in to some people.

  3. Could be worse. Mom is feeling under the weather but it appears to be a urinary tract infection, not the virus. The rest of us are fine, thanks for asking.

I hope everyone and their families stay well or get better and if you do have to venture forth, beware of the Stupidity Factor. You can do your best, but you never know what the other guy is going to come up with.

    God be with you.

  4. My wife discovered that hallmark is showing reruns of the Christmas movies. Pray for me.

  5. Better than the poor bleepards wondering how they’re going to pay next month’s rent.

    Beyond that?
Unfortunately, I can’t say much positive at the moment.
The chronically ill have spiked temps, the psych cases are flipping out, and I’m the one trying to deal with the fact that life sometimes just sucks.
On the bright side, I won’t lose myself in the Soma of digital entertainment, because the crazy little blighters have smashed the TVs. So there’s that.

      1. Thanks for the thought, but it’ll be OK. Just need to endure until then.
        .
The major thing I could say, is “don’t take mind-altering drugs while pregnant. It will &$_& your kids up.”
Unfortunately, that’s already widely known and deliberately ignored.
(But I would dearly LOVE to be on one of those juries.)
