ONWARD now at Disney+.

They’re gonna be arguing for years whether ONWARD got destroyed or saved by the coronavirus; I’m going to go with ‘saved,’ probably. I enjoyed the movie, mind you! Heck, it may be the last film I ever see in theaters, the way things are going. But if you’re not a Second Edition AD&D sort of person, I dunno how much you loved ONWARD.

But this way they got breathing room. ONWARD racked up 100 million in two weeks, which is horrible by Pixar standards; but it’s plausible at this point to make any number of assertions about what ONWARD’s ‘true’ numbers would have been. So stick it on Disney+, let every kid in North America watch it, and introduce the merch… whenever the Mouse does that. I don’t know, I’m not in that line of work.

PS: I didn’t think that typing ‘Disney+’ into Amazon would work, but hey: they got a free app for the Kindle. And… the Fire Phone. I had one of those, by the way. When I went into the AT&T store to ask about an upgrade a few years later the salesman couldn’t help but laugh. I probably should have gotten mad at that, but let’s face it: he was right.

  1. My wife looked at Onward and, even after I explained what the story actually is (because the synopsis on D+ was dreck) she wasn’t interested. I’ll probably start introducing my daughters to gaming as soon as they can reliably read on their own. I’ll just couch it in terms of princesses.

    1. Anime style? Some good options there, yeah ..
      .
Alternately introduce ’em to powerpuff girls ..
      .

  2. I just finished watching it. I thought it was excellent. I didn’t think there were enough people who spent their entire adolescence playing Dungeons and Dragons to warrant a movie.
Of course, there were enough of us to warrant an animated series, so what do I know?
