05/17/2020 Snippet, OLD LOU (final).

Been wanting to write the last sentence of it for a while now. Not the last sentence of the snippet. The last sentence of the story. Which you’ll be able to read on Patreon by the end of May!

“It’s your own fault, you know,” the mage said. “And this was inevitable. I am not at war with myself, and you are. You’ve stolen power that wasn’t yours, while I fought for every scrap I’ve ever taken…” and that’s all that I heard, because I was too busy fighting for every scrap that I had ever taken to pay attention to a crazed monologue. I don’t know if the guy even noticed, or cared.

I’ve been fighting Old Lou for control since the day we got squeezed together, which is the only reason why he didn’t break free the first second. But he was so strong now, stronger than ever before. Part of that was the energy the mage had shoved into him – which, by the way, was wrecking our shared body in the process – but even more of it was tied up into how much he hated me.

There was a part of me shocked at that, you know? Sure, he had every right to hate me; there was a deal, and Old Lou had expectations, and I’d been telling him ‘no’ for, well, forever. He saw me as a traitor, which was fair. But maybe I had still hoped that, beneath it all, Old Lou had – I don’t know. Conceded that at least my view of the universe had some merit, I guess.
