    The Man: Captain Samuel Nicholas (considered by tradition to be the first Commandant of the Marine Corps.), the man who opened the recruiting rolls for the United States Continental Marines.

    .
    There are just three other DIs waiting to pounce you if your attention wanders.
    Don’t peek when they jump someone else, either.
    They will catch you.
    Also, don’t break composure. They’re funny as hell, but it’s a trap.
    The senior drill instructor will continue as if nothing else is going on. Pay attention. There will be a test later.

    Various administrations had largely neutered any religious references by 25 years ago.
    .
    And “Sir” goes at the beginning or end, depending if you’re addressing or answering, but NEVER both.
