Reminder: DST starts tomorrow.

Insert obligatory reactions here. I’ll say this for Daylight Savings Time: the first night, the kids just tumble into bed. It’s very soothing.

PS: It’s been a long week, honestly. Monday is going to be a battery-recharge day, assuming I can find somewhere to go that’s relaxing. I may just hide in the car.

  1. I’ll just note the odd nature of DST ..
    .
Allegedly, the idea dates back to Benny Franklin .. a man with a very esoteric history…
    .
DST didn’t come into use until the World Wars, the very turbulent 1910s and 1920s saw the first iteration, then the 1940s the second, with some places (including NYC) refusing to stop once they’d begun.
    .
DST didn’t become a permanent federal issue until the 1960s, yet another turbulent time.
    .
As DST is, of course, bollocks – any activity that requires sunlight can be scheduled based on when the sun *actually rises*, just as certain holidays (Easter, Ramadan) are scheduled according to the moon ..
    .
I’ve always had this feeling the true nature of DST .. has nothing to do with saving daylight … and questions about what it really does.
