The ZOMGGGGGG ARMY OF THE DEAD Trailer.

I was ready to watch ARMY OF THE DEAD, but now I am stoked. This is gonna be just fine. And the choice of music for the trailer’s at least part of it. Don’t ask me why, because I don’t know, either.

  1. I think… it says a few things. It is (and I mean absolutely no disrepect to the song here) a somewhat old, worn-out song about old, worn-out people. It’s nostalgic. It’s southern. It suggests a certain something about the ethos the protagonists com from. It suggest (and reinforces the imagery in doing so) the idea that these are not “just a badass” action heroes. They may have skills, but they also have the scars that they picked up gaining them.

Additionally, there’s a certain kind of political slant that infests a fair number of the movies out there these days, and movies with that kind of slant would *never* include this song unironically. It’s too humanizing, of people they’d not wish to humanize.

  2. I dunno. Fast zombies, I can handle. Fast smart zombies? Completely changes the gestalt.

Zombie movies are not about how you deal with zombies; they’re about how you deal with each other. This just looks like a fairly standard action flick. I’ll wait.

  3. Hmmm, interesting. Could be good.

Also, the guy who says about the tiger: ‘That’s crossing the line.’ was the actor who played the John Henry Terminator in Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles. Welcome to my brain folks.
