02/13/22 Snippet, THE THING IN THE AIRLOCK.

More priorities!

“All right, Ms. Waite. Let’s go back to how you knew Oates. You were friends?”

Waite gave him a closed-mouth grin. “You could say that. We didn’t have much in common at first, except that she was gonna have my ass arrested for power-squatting. Shirl told me that herself, after it didn’t matter anymore.” She shook her head. “I don’t know why that didn’t bug me. You think it would, but I guess I was in a forgiving mood. Besides, I kinda felt I’d dodged some debris. The world might of ended, but at least I wasn’t gonna end up stuck in some dirtside jail.”

“I don’t know,” Tobias mused. “At least you wouldn’t have to worry about the air, or the radiation.”

She gave him a look. “You just heard me confess to a crime, right?”

“Sure, Ms. Waite. But like you said: the world ended. I have to pick and choose what crimes to care about. Murder beats illegal accounting.”
