#rsrh Aww, Pete Beinart’s all nostalgic…

…and sh*t*.

Remember when George W. Bush and his neoconservative allies used to say that the “war on terror” was a struggle on behalf of Muslims, decent folks who wanted nothing more than to live free like you and me? Remember when Karen Hughes paid millions to produce glitzy videos of Muslim Americans testifying about how free they were to practice their religion in the USA? Remember Bush’s second inaugural, when he said “America’s ideal of freedom” is “sustained in our national life by the truths of Sinai, the Sermon on the Mount, the words of the Koran?”

Sure, this neoconservative remembers, Petey.  Just like this neocon remembers how at the time you and the rest of the freaks in the professional antiwar movement – and may you never be forgiven for your part in bringing over The New Republic to that side – did everything in your power to assault, deride, decry, degrade, and generally oppose the men and women who you are oh-so-hypocritically pining for now. And that pining will last precisely as long as it takes to get the grownup party on foreign policy – mine – back into office.  After that, you’ll call us devils again.

Moving along to the merits of your article – such as they were – face facts, Sparky: you don’t speak for the trees.  You also don’t speak for the 70% of the population that readily admit that the backers of the Ground Zero Mosque have every right to build it.  You may not even speak for the 30% or so that want it built.  You speak for the fringe… just like old times, hey?

Do I sound contemptuous?  I hope so: having to read dreck from morally broken apostates who decided that they would rather throw any number of foreign babies on the pyre rather than let a Republican President take credit for saving them makes my teeth ache.  Not strong enough?  Then please, please, please take this personally: I would no more take an antiwar movement [shill]’s advice on anything that even touches on proper Middle Eastern foreign policy than I would take a pedophile’s on child rearing techniques, and for pretty much the same reasons.  In fact… well, there’s always the chance that a pedophile got that way because of a brain tumor; what’s all y’all’s excuse?

Moe Lane

*Choice of that last word deliberate, by the way

  1. Okay to be contemptuous of the contemptible Petey-Pooh. Greg Sargent however is now trying to extricate his head from that place on his body where the sun never shines…!
