PBS memory-holes Tina Fey’s attack on conservative women.

One wonders why they bothered.  One, it’s PBS; two, Fey’s comments were in receiving one of those awards that apparently exist solely to give neurotic artists a little external self-confidence; and three, it’s not like Tina Fey wasn’t saying anything that we’ve all drearily come to expect from the American celebrity Left.  To wit:

“And, you know, politics aside, the success of Sarah Palin and women like her is good for all women – except, of course –those who will end up, you know, like, paying for their own rape ‘kit ‘n’ stuff,” Fey said. “But for everybody else, it’s a win-win. Unless you’re a gay woman who wants to marry your partner of 20 years – whatever. But for most women, the success of conservative women is good for all of us. Unless you believe in evolution. You know – actually, I take it back. The whole thing’s a disaster.”

Nonetheless, PBS cut it out of the rebroadcast.  They claim that they didn’t do it for political reasons; they did not also claim that they didn’t do it because starting next January the federal purse strings will be in the hands of some very annoyed politicians with a burning need to cut government spending and no sense of humor about attacks on conservative women; but that’s probably because nobody had the mother-wit to ask.  Which is my way of saying that PBS’ claim was nonsense: they knew very well how people would react to slime like that, so they cut it out forthwith.  Which was a mistake: up to now they didn’t own any part of Fey’s nastiness.  Now they do.

As for Tina Fey: I don’t know about the rest of you, but I am getting tired of being lectured about public policy by my intellectual and academic inferiors, simply because they happen to have more symmetrical faces than mine.

#rsrh QotD, Holding their breath…

until Obama’s Blue edition, apparently:

Adam Green, co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) and an outspoken critic of the White House, said liberal anger has less to do with fears of a Clintonian move to the middle by Obama and more with a misreading of the election results by the administration.

“It’s less ‘Oh no, they’re triangulating,’ and more ‘Boy, their political instincts are really stupid,’ ” said Green…

…says the man whose candidate roster went 0 for 95 on Net Neutrality two weeks ago.  Then again, if there’s anybody who could recognize a stupid political instinct on sight, it’d be a PCCC guy with a mirror.  Sorry: couldn’t resist.

PS: Read the rest of that Hill article: it’s ripping good fun watching people explain why the issues that progressives ran and got shellacked on should be the issues that Obama adopts.

#rsrh Glenn Reynolds is reading my mind…

…either that, or he’s just as cynical as I am in calling Charlie Rangel’s likely punishment a ‘wrist-slap.’  Sure, he was convicted on 11 of 13 ethics charges, but who here really expects expulsion?  Censure?  We’ll be lucky to see a reprimand… and, given the skeptical nature of the Hill article, it’s actually unlikely that the Democrats will either actually fine Rangel, or reduce his privileges.  And forget Rangel resigning, of course: if he was seriously considering it, the reliably Democratic shills over at CREW wouldn’t dare to offer the suggestion.  The Democratic Establishment: can’t live with them, pass the beer nuts.

Ach, well.  At least Rangel couldn’t bankroll candidates this election cycle.  That was something, at least.

#rsrh About the Westboro Baptist thing.

I forget where I saw the first link to this, but it would seem that the Phelps clan has finally gotten to a point where American society’s tolerance for their hate-mongering is beginning to run out. I know that everybody here is really upset that the bigots’ tires got slashed, but I worry that if the Phelps don’t reassess the status of their welcome on the public stage soon then somebody might just simply shoot one and take his chances with a jury.

I don’t want to have to watch somebody go to jail for shooting a Phelps.  Call me a squish, or something.

Vulgarity on display: antiwar demonstration in Chicago.

OK. I need to apologize in advance for this video footage, given that it ends with some pretty foul things said about the wife of the Israeli Prime Minister.  While I think that it’s important that people see what kind of attitudes and language is considered acceptable by the antiwar movement, I also recognize that actually being exposed to it without warning is unfair to decent human beings.  That’s why I put the video after the fold: the sexual slurs are at the end, right after the conspiracy theories about the Gaza flotilla and wild-eyed accusations of Israeli genocide without bothering to provide any, well, truth.

The good news?  There weren’t many of these fools on the streets of Chicago.  The bad news?  As it stands, they’re all smugly aware that they’ll never suffer any kind of ill effects in their liberal social circles for trying to destroy the nation of Israel.  The worst news? Apparently, some of these folks are Jewish themselves, and I can’t really comment on that without risking a violation of Godwin’s Law…

Oops.

Time for the Child’s Play post again.

For those who don’t know, Child’s Play is a charity that provides toys and games to kids undergoing hospital stays (particularly ones with an ongoing condition): it is pretty much the gamer industry charity, and is by now an international venture.  It’s starting to get to be Christmas season, so if you are looking for somewhere to put a little charitable contribution, this is a pretty good choice.

Via Penny Arcade, obviously.
