Aretha Franklin passed today in hospice care, surrounded by friends and family. She was… she was marvelous. In the sense that she was a marvel: unique, talented, and confident in her plans and desires. I’ve never heard anybody say a bad word about her.
This is, hands down, my favorite Aretha Franklin song and scene. Rest in peace, ma’am.
*As I have long noted, there are three kinds of people in the world: people who like Aretha Franklin, people who are wrong, and Communists. (Yes, Communists are wrong, too, but I won’t call somebody that just because they have sub-optimal tastes in music.)
