A bit less Disney’s Atlas Shrugged than the first teaser suggested.

On the other hand, there are proper spaceships that go up on a pillar of fire, and come down on a pillar of fire, as God and Bob Heinlein intended*.  In fact, the entire thing looks pretty damned Heinleinian, mid-Campbell era: heroic engineers, technophilia, and the primacy of competence. Book of the Week: Starship Troopers.

Speaking of Bob Heinlein: Starship Troopers is, of course, one of the best damn science fiction novels ever written.  It’s been almost comically misunderstood, of course: in fact, you can detect how dubious somebody in the speculative fiction field actually is, just by seeing just how badly he or she misses the point of Starship Troopers. There’s a certain type of mind that simply cannot accept the plain text of the book…

But I digress.  So let us bid adieu to The Curse of Chalion. And hope for another sequel to that one.

Book of the Week: Take Back Your Government.

This one via Instapundit, and I’ve heard of it in the past:Take Back Your Government, by Bob Heinlein. I’d say “Yes, the Bob Heinlein” – except that nobody would dare write under the same name. It’s a practical treatise on local electoral politics that I suspect a bunch of people would like to read right now.

And, it being Sunday, we say goodbye to Destroyer of Worlds.

Book of the Week: The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.

We remove Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Classic Regency Romance – Now with Ultraviolent Zombie Mayhem! from the list and replace it with The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress: it was almost going to be Escape from Hell, but this update reminded me of the Heinlein book, which is easily one of my top twenty favorites.
