Ah. So *that’s* why they call it a test drive.

Not gonna say the dealership or the car, but everything was fine before the battery discharge light went on and the car lost power. Fortunately, we hit nobody, didn’t crash the car, and eventually pushed it into a strip mall with a pizza place. That was the most fascinating thing, really: three wiry older guys just appeared out of nowhere and helped us maneuver it into a parking space. Then they disappeared, as quickly as they came, with the exception of the one guy who wanted to know if we needed help with Triple A.

…I fucking love this country.

…[NASCAR legend Richard] Petty’s iconic blue ‘Birds that are among the most famous American race cars of all time, and one will be crossing the block at the Mecum Auctions event in Harrisburg, Penn., on Saturday, Aug. 3.

It’s the crown jewel of a more than 40-strong car and motorcycle collection being offered by prominent collector Todd Werner, which includes the Road Runner Petty won the Daytona 500 in during his 1971 championship run and several classic drag cars worth high six to seven figures each.

The Cars/Cars 2 Honest Trailer.

I personally liked Cars more than the Honest Trailers folks did — they didn’t hate it, mind — because it was basically a kids’ flick, and my kids loved it (and Mater Tales), so it did its duty.  But it was entertaining to listen to Announcer Guy skip ahead to Cars 2, only to spiral into a Madness Anagnorisis over thinking too much about the implications of the Cars universe.  Not least because there were a couple of points in there that I hadn’t considered yet.  Since the disquieting world-building needed to make Cars work is something I find interesting, it’s always nice to encounter a new, chilling insight.
