CMR’s David Daleiden refuses to take [Harris**] County’s slightly desperate plea deal.

The idiotic – look, you don’t arrest the whistle-blowers when they catch Planned Parenthood on tape trying to talk up their profitable baby-harvesting business, OK? – Harris County prosecutors smartly offered David Daleiden a plea deal.  He has declined.  The case goes to trial. As Steve Berman in that link sums it up:

If Daleiden were to go to trial, the videos he made along with Sandra Merritt and the Center for Medical Progress exposing Planned Parenthood’s baby body parts operation would certainly enter into evidence. And they’d be found to be truthful. And Planned Parenthood officials would be subpoenaed to testify at the trial. And they’d be found to be lying.

I should also note that David Daleiden is apparently prepared to go to jail over this. If that bothers you – if you don’t like the fact that a jury could put a man in jail for twenty years because he used a fake ID in one of the few ways that society finds acceptable and even moral* – then, well, that’s why people do civil disobedience. REAL civil disobedience, not the petulant, look-at-me garbage that the Activist Left revels in.

*That aside will make absolutely no sense to people who have elevated abortion to some sort of sacrament. I do not believe that these people are the majority of pro-choicers, but; there’s more of them than there used to be. It’s frankly a bit alarming.

Rep. Elijah Cummings issues an impotent threat letter to the Center for Medical Progress.

(H/T: @FrontLineMD) Let me give you yet another example of Why Elections Matter. Let us imagine, for a moment, that we lived in an alternate universe where the Democrats still retained control of the House of Representatives. Let us also imagine that, in this world, that the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) had still conducted a sting operation that had caught Planned Parenthood and associated corporate customers engaged in ghoulish baby-harvesting. If those two things were the case, then this would be a chilling excerpt:

A leading Democrat wants to know if anti-abortion activists broke any federal or state laws when filming a series of undercover videos of Planned Parenthood.

Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, D-Md., asked the anti-abortion group Center for Medical Progress in a letter Thursday whether it used donations in its undercover investigation of Planned Parenthood. Cummings also wants to know if lawmakers were aware of any potential illegal activities surrounding the years-long investigation into Planned Parenthood.

Fortunately, Elijah Cummings is merely the Ranking Member of the Oversight Committee, not Chairman of it. That means more or less that he has precisely as much power to go after whistleblowers and muckrakers as the actual Chairman Jason Chaffetz will permit him. And seeing as Rep. Chaffetz has instead decided to start a probe on just how much federal money is propping up the baby-harvesting business, I suspect that Rep. Cummings will not find CMP’s response satisfactory. Planned Parenthood Sting Video #3: ‘Human Capital.’ Episode 1. [CONTENT WARNING]

CONTENT WARNING.

The video is pretty much three parts: there’s the part where Planned Parenthood swears up and down that they don’t harvest babies for profit. There’s the testimony from a former phlebotomist and tissue harvester that yes, Planned Parenthood harvests babies for profit. And then there’s the (content warning) part where you see a couple of Planned Parenthood staffers casually separate out an aborted baby on a clear pie dish and ask the sting operatives whether said operatives would be willing to buy the… stuff. Oh, and then they made it clear that they want to be paid per item, not per baby: Continue reading Planned Parenthood Sting Video #3: ‘Human Capital.’ Episode 1. [CONTENT WARNING]
