Authorities on Saturday searched Seagoville storage unit as they focused their investigation into the slayings of the Kaufman County district attorney, his wife and a top prosecutor on a former justice of the peace.

Eric Lyle Williams is now the prime suspect in the murder of District Attorney Mike McLelland, his wife, Cynthia, and Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse, law enforcement authorities say.

Williams was convicted of stealing county equipment last year and sentenced to probation in a case prosecuted by McLelland and Hasse. That case is on appeal. Williams faces another theft charge in a case related to money allegedly misused from a law library fund.

I know, I know: it’s the talking head. But if you don’t smack it from time to time, the talking head simply gets worse:

Rev. Luis León presided over Easter Sunday services attended by President Obama recently, and has taken fire from the right for suggesting that racial hatred lurks in the hearts of conservatives.

During his radio show, Limbaugh agreed with a caller who suggested that León was merely following the president’s lead in accusing the right of latent racism.

“Actually, Rushbo, racism is the belief that one race – whites — should rule all others,” Matthews confidently declared. “Get your definitions straight.”

…I suppose that it’s a great retroactive comfort for various victims of atrocities to hear that the Bataan Death March was totes not due to racism.  Or the Manila Massacre.  Or the Rape of Nanking.  And Imperial Japan is just the most obvious example; pick a region, and you’ll find people who have enthusiastically gone after whoever the local definition of ‘other races’ is.  This is a less savory part of the nature of mankind: what makes Western society largely unique is that we tend to feel bad about it.

…Mind you, Chris Matthews thinks that he’s complimenting the President by comparing him to William Shakespeare’s Henry V.  The context is the President’s not-a-naked-campaign-ploy-at-all visit and speech in Afghanistan yesterday, and it predictably caused Chris Matthews to start up with the sycophancy.  Precise quote? “It was right out of Henry V actually, a touch of Barry, in this case, in the night for those soldiers risking their lives over there” (H/T: Hot Air Headlines).

Henry V.

Oh, dear.  See, this is why literary references should be reserved to the professionals.  ‘Professionals’ being defined as ‘people are who not Chris Matthews,’ of course. (more…)

Yes. That Chris Matthews. Matthews apparently did not personally approve of the way that Jack Conway smeared Rand Paul with a recent scurrilous ad, and so took the opportunity to smack Conway around for over seven minutes of pretty much relentless, aggressive interviewing.

Yes, again: that Chris Matthews. As I remarked just now on Twitter, watching this was like watching Jack Conway get mauled by a Teletubbie.

I don’t like to encourage taking Chris Matthews seriously… and I guess that I’m not doing that here, either.  God knows that Rep. Paul Ryan (R) didn’t particularly raise a sweat in making both Matthews and Rep. Joe Crowley (D) look like dolts:

The ref should have stepped in and stopped that fight, huh? Crowley should be particularly incensed, given that he got knocked down by the spillover. I mean, really: by the time it was over Rep. Crowley was effectively bragging that his district was too poor to support small businesses that were successful enough to be affected by the tax rollback. That’s either… stupid, or ignorant; take your pick, they’re about equally unflattering to Crowley’s mother-wit. (more…)

On the other hand, does this mean that the talking head is secretly a racist? Although I suppose that the talking head was merely dealing with yet another glitch in its pre-programmed script. It would not be the first time.

(Via The Corner) Indeed, Mr. Barone [OOPS! York] we knew that this was coming. Talking head Chris Matthews was instructed to take umbrage at Rush Limbaugh’s use of the term ‘regime’ to refer to this administration:

“…The use of the word ‘regime’ in American political parlance is unacceptable, and someone should tell the walrus [Limbaugh] to stop using it.”

Matthews didn’t stop there. “I never heard the word ‘regime,’ before, have you?” he said to NBC’s Chuck Todd. “I don’t even think Joe McCarthy ever called this government a ‘regime.’”

Finally — you knew this was coming — on June 14, 2002, Chris Matthews himself introduced a panel discussion about a letter signed by many prominent leftists condemning the Bush administration’s conduct of the war on terror. “Let’s go to the Reverend Al Sharpton,” Matthews said. “Reverend Sharpton, what do you make of this letter and this panoply of the left condemning the Bush regime?”

Oops. Perhaps Joe McCarthy never called the U.S. government a regime, but Chris Matthews did. And a lot of other people did, too. So now we are supposed to believe him when he expresses disgust at Rush Limbaugh doing the same?

As people are noting, Jon Stewart seems to be having quite the career monopolizing Blue-on-Blue comedy these days. Said monopoly is probably going to abruptly change.

So. Is it…

1. The aforementioned wants-Limbaugh-to-die bit?
2. That the only reason that Chris Matthews is trying this is in the hope that going after Limbaugh will boost his ratings?
3. Or that Chris Matthews thinks that Live and Let Die is a great film?

I’m actually going to go with 3). Chris Matthews will undoubtedly coward up and claim the usual ‘it-was-just-a-joke’ defense; and as for getting eyeballs, well, Matthews needs to get them somehow.  But Live and Let Die wasn’t even Roger Moore’s best Bond film; I’ll also be marginally nice and merely note that Matthews’ pick of it may say some very interesting things about how the pundit views African-Americans…

It’s not surprising that Matthews isn’t visible in this clip. He’s the sort who’ll hide his face during an attack:

But if you disagree that Fineman’s not reachable, well, his email’s webeditors@newsweek.com and the main number for Newsweek in NYC is 212-445-4000. Don’t let them give you the 800 number: those people just handle magazine subscriptions.

Sorry, folks, but this is part of the price of being a more activist party. You have to be, well, active. That means, among other things, emailing and calling about offensive stuff, instead of just stewing about them.

I’m going to bet that the talking head wouldn’t have said that about a man.

Allahpundit cannot believe that the talking head is sufficiently mind-numbingly stupid so as to say that Governor Sarah Palin can’t read on national television:

…Allahpundit, despite his dour demeanor, is surprisingly willing to believe the best of people at times. I respect that: but the Politico is under no such illusions about the talking head’s meaning, and neither am I. The talking head has notoriously taken sides with regard to the new administration, and in the final analysis I don’t see where there’s much difference whether that the talking head is malicious, or whether it is simply a fool.

Either way, I think that decent people should start reassessing their need to appear on the talking head’s program. Or their need to watch it.
