#rsrh Barack Obama: typically ignorant of GOP farm bill’s passage.

(H/T Gateway Pundit) Well, this is embarrassing:

Short version: in his haste to make it look like he actually cares about the state of Iowa, Barack Obama snidely wondered what was up with passage of the farm bill.  Well, what’s up with the farm bill is that House Republicans did pass an emergency one two weeks ago; only, Democrat Debbie Stabenow got her nose so out of joint because she couldn’t have her Five Year Plan* passed that she refused to let the Senate version advance.  Which you would think that Barack Obama would know perfectly well, since the New York Times reported that Senate aides indicated “the White House would have considered the House measure”.

I guess nobody ever tells Barack Obama anything.  Frankly, I wouldn’t: there’s always the chance that he’d take an interest in the subject, and thus muck it up thoroughly. Continue reading #rsrh Barack Obama: typically ignorant of GOP farm bill’s passage.

#rsrh Is Debbie Stabenow (D, MI) vulnerable?

…Maybe.

The most important thing to take away from this highly preliminary and definitely partisan poll is that it shows Senator Debbie Stabenow’s (D, MI) numbers being below 50%.  This is somewhat surprising, given that she did not have a particularly hard time of it in 2006; then again, 2006 was a bad year for a Republican to be challenging a Democratic incumbent (to put it mildly).   However, since 2006 the unemployment rate has more or less doubled (just like everywhere else, really); if Stabenow had been up for election last year she would probably have been thrown out of office alongside a good number of her fellow Democrats.  If she wants to survive 2012 Stabenow had better start hoping that the economy improves*.

H/T Taegan Goddard, whose comment section is by the way being highly entertaining in its Democratic members’ inability to grasp that Michigan is the state where the GOP just swept the executive branch, cemented its control over the state Senate, flipped the State House, and now has a majority of federal Congressional seats.  It’s not enemy territory for Democrats.  Yet.  But it’s certainly at least not under their control, which will be… interesting for an administration that may be perhaps not experienced in adjusting their campaigning style to reflect reduced resources.

*I think that we have had it demonstrated by now that federal Democrats are singularly inept at making the economy improve.

#rsrh Why, that miserable [expletive deleted].

Senator Debbie Stabenow (D) has divorced her husband – and, frankly, she should have gotten one free kick in the groin in, too.  This stems from an incident in 2006 where then-husband Thomas Athans got arrested for soliciting a prostitute.  David Catanese calls the details ‘not pretty,’ and I agree:

Athans, 46 at the time, was not charged with soliciting and testified against the 21-year-old Westland woman. The woman was sentenced to probation on a charge of misdemeanor trespassing.

The older I get, the more hard-nosed (and less libertarian) I become about prostitution*.  But there’s something off-putting about a john being able to skate on a solicitation arrest by testifying against a hooker on a misdemeanor charge.  You have to wonder whether the sentence “Do you know who I am?” was uttered at any point during the initial arrest… and whether it, indeed, made a difference…
