#rsrh Democratic convention $15 million in the hole.

Five million in immediate debts, and another ten million in an activated letter of credit that will need to be paid off next year.  Free advice to the people wanting to be paid: get that money NOW, because the DNC isn’t going to want to pay it and Obama for America simply won’t.  Free advice to Duke Energy Corp (the corporation that gave the Democrats the letter of credit): remember the several years of aggravation that you’re about to go through the next time that the Democrats ask you for money.  Free advice to the DNC… no, sorry, as long as Debbie Wasserman Schultz is your chairwoman you’re pretty much screwed.

Lovely day today, isn’t it? – Says the man comfortably certain that the DNC gets to start the next election cycle ten million extra bucks in the hole.

#rsrh Picture of the Day, The Democratic Convention Is A Sham edition.

In case the picture goes away: it purports to show the teleprompter for Antonio Villaraigosa during yesterday’s DNC God/Israel debacle. Apparently the passing of the vote was pre-scripted; there was no scenario where the delegates were to be permitted a say of their own.

Honest question: the site is dingy and cramped, the speakers are awful, the hotels are full of bedbugs, and I suspect that the open bars are few and far between. What the heck are the Democratic delegates still doing at this thing?

#rsrh Charlotte Watch: Letting Clinton be Clinton.

I was wondering how Bill planned to sabotage Obama last night; turned out, according to Jim Geraghty, it was by Clinton being… Clinton.

As the sections continued, it became clear that this is what Bill Clinton lives for — how he misses the excitement, the attention, the power. . . . The presidency is like a drug, and while I’m sure his post-presidential life has its perks — though he is a vegan now — nothing is quite like having an arena full of adoring fans, hanging on your every word, ready to applaud and cheer your every utterance. The two-term limit is the only thing that is keeping him from running again.

And the speech just kept going.

#rsrh Please, DNC: Give Elizabeth Warren the keynote speech.

Please, please, please: “Citing an Obama campaign official, the [Boston Globe] recently reported that the Massachusetts Senate candidate – and liberal darling – is under consideration for the high-profile speaking assignment.”

Via @SissyWillis.  The Boston Globe article is here, by the way; unfortunately, it’s just at the level of dismissive rumor at the moment.  Which is a pity: I figure that the GOP* could net about twenty million bucks and lock down about five Electoral Votes just off of her speech.  The woman’s a walking menace to her own side.

Hey, ignore me.  Show me better.  Please.  I am on my knees and begging the Democrats to make Elizabeth Warren the keynote speaker…

*You know.  The good guys.

#rsrh ALWAYS BRING A CAMERA ALONG Watch, Debbie Wasserman Schultz edition.

Seriously, people: it’s great that this happened:

A thousand-plus packed the auditorium, last night, July 16, at Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel in Elkins Park, Pa. for a rally sponsored by Jewish Americans for Obama. While the crowd may have been almost all Jewish not all of them were for Obama and things at times got contentious with shouting matches breaking out in the audience.

The headline speaker was Democrat National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who represents Florida’s 20th District in Congress. Unexpected heckling to her claims that the President was a strong supporter of Israel  visibly upset and flustered her.
…but it’d be even greater if you could show it.
Always. Bring. A. Camera. Try the Kodak Mini Video Camera with SD Card (Grey); it’s under eighty bucks and it fits in your hand.  Get that audio on the record.

#rsrh DNC cheapskates not reimbursing Concord, NC for lost convention expenses?

This is an older story, but you’d think that it’d have been a larger one:

The city of Concord was blind-sided Monday night by a decision to move the Democratic National Convention’s kickoff party to uptown Charlotte.

On Tuesday, city officials learned that the time and tax money spent preparing for the Labor Day event is lost and will not be reimbursed.

Charlotte Democratic convention’s appeal simply becoming more selective*.

You know, RedState can afford a four-day event.

It would appear that the Democratic party cannot afford a fourth day of festivities, to the point where they’re going to cancel their orignial kickoff event at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.  But don’t worry: the ceremonial anointing of The One will still be taking place at the Bank of America Stadium. Hold on, let me repeat that, for the benefit of the six remaining progressives out there who are still pretending that the President cares about their somewhat sad attempt to create a populist movement:

THE CEREMONIAL ANOINTING OF THE ONE WILL STILL BE TAKING PLACE AT THE BANK OF AMERICA STADIUM.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz for House Minority Leader?

Debbie Wasserman Schultz for House Minority Leader!

I wasn’t going to say anything about this rumor from the Shark Tank that Debbie Wasserman Schultz was scheduled to get the boot in November for failing to lead the DNC to anything except humiliation, largely because Debbie Wasserman Schultz is a GREAT DNC chair… for us.  I wanted to keep her at that job for just a bit longer; there are entire states that DWS could end up opening up for the GOP.  But then I saw this passage from the National Journal (via Hot Air):

Talk is that Wasserman Schultz will not be asked to serve another term at the DNC, regardless of whether she helps President Obama win a second term. Yet the native New Yorker could use that to her advantage, as she reportedly now has her eye on a House leadership post—perhaps even the highest.

If Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California decides to relinquish House Democrats’ top spot after November—a possibility oft-discussed in the cloakroom, hallways, and Capitol subway—the similarly polarizing Wasserman Schultz may make a play for her post.

#rsrh DNC spokesman praises ‘Bush tax cuts.’

Hey, when do you think that the Democrats are going to stop writing, starring in, and producing the raw footage for our attack ads?  It’s starting to feel like we should be reporting it as an in-kind contribution.

Partial transcript of DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse, courtesy of Jim Geraghty:

“Broadly speaking, Republicans and Democrats don’t want to see, especially at a time where the economy needs all the fuel it can get, don’t want to see us raising taxes on the middle class. So for example, some of the Bush tax cuts did some good things for the middle class, and certainly don’t want to see, this time, tax increases on the middle class.”

You may remember Brad Woodhouse from the time that he and the DNC passively-aggressively [probably be for the best if I remove that phrase*; also, link fixed] the guy who wanted to try to shoot Eric Cantor.  I must say, the specter of DOOM on the horizon seems to have made him and the DNC a bit more… cautious… since those far-off days…
