Free RPG Day!

First one there, consulted with the dude running the register on how he should best present the merchandise (I suggested that he use a table, keep about three out of each item for as long as he could, and limit customers to a soft cap of two or three. This seemed reasonable to him), and picked up the two that I wanted:

We need more Unknown Armies stuff.  It’s a rich mine for weird magic roleplaying, so I’m surprised that there aren’t more supplements out. Certainly the Kickstarter did well.

Anyway.  Free RPG Day!

Reminder: Free RPG Day is 06/16/18.

A week from tomorrow, in fact.  Of this year’s Free RPG Day entries, I specifically want the Unknown Armies and Fall of Delta Green entries; and I’ve already established with my wife that I shall be going to my friendly local gaming store extra-early that day to acquire them. …And to take a look around, of course. Like one does.  You don’t have to buy anything, after all.  Or so I have been told.

So, Free RPG Day was a total whiffleball for me.

The store opened at 10 AM, and when I was there in 2016 when I got to the place at noon-thirty or so there was still tons of stuff left. So I figured getting there at quarter after 11 would be OK, right? Nope! Cleaned out within fifteen minutes.  I’d feel worse about this, except that I had two kids in tow and I wouldn’t have enjoyed standing in line with them for a half hour at 9:30 AM or so. It’s Free RPG Day!

I almost missed this! Fortunately, somebody was talking about it on Facebook. Anyway, today is Free RPG Day, and there’s a enough publishers participating in it with gaming supplements that I want to justify my getting the kids dressed and over to Games and Stuff. Might as well: it looks like it’s going to spit rain today, and I gotta get ’em out of the house and doing something.

Evil Hat Productions offers a PDF Guarantee to people buying their games at gaming stores.

It’s pretty straightforward.

…I also suspect that, no, Amazon purchases don’t count.  The idea is to specifically encourage purchases at gaming stores, after all. Encouraging Amazon sales wouldn’t really have the same effect.

PS: Free RPG Day is June 17th, for those who were wondering. Interestingly, there’s some support for TORG Eternity in there, which suggests that there really will be a Kickstarter for that game soon…

Today is ‘Free’ RPG Day.

‘Free’ in scare quotes because I knew perfectly well I wasn’t walking out of there without buying something.  And lo! It came to pass.  Mythos Expeditions: a compendium of travel adventures for Trail of Cthulhu. Kind of surprised that I missed it, actually. Weird.

Anyway: store locator here. I just grabbed the Atlas Games/Pelgrane Press ones, mostly not to be greedy.

Saturday is Free RPG Day.

And it turns out that there’s stuff this year that I’d be willing to travel twenty minutes to go acquire. That’s actually kind of neat; it’s been a while since I was in a real, live FLGS (friendly local gaming store).  Which is a judgment upon me, I know.

PS: Yes, I also know that I’ll probably be buying stuff there, too.  That’s part of the entire scheme, right?  Bring ’em in with the free stuff, sell them some other stuff while they’re there. Well, far be it from me to break with tradition…
